The Greater Cincinnati Health Council strongly supports this community initiative to rescue newborn babies from abandonment, injury or possible death. Through the Secret Safe Place for Newborns program, area hospitals provide CONFIDENTIAL emergency care and shelter for unharmed newborns up to three days old who are brought to an area hospital. Total secrecy is assured, and the mother will not be prosecuted for abandonment if she acts within three days of the birth and the baby is unharmed. Area hospitals (see member page) will provide a SAFE haven for the infant until it can be placed into an appropriate home.
The Secret Safe Place for Newborns is endorsed by:
The Prosecuting Attorneys in Hamilton and Butler counties in Ohio and in Boone, Kenton, Campbell and Grant counties in Kentucky
The Greater Cincinnati Health Council
The Hamilton County Department of Human Services
The Kentucky Cabinet for Families and Children
United Way & Community Chest
12 WKRC
Supporting legislation in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana allows unharmed infants up to three days old to be dropped off voluntarily at any hospital or surrendered to such persons or places as law enforcement offices, fire stations, or at emergency medical facilities.
