The Occupational Safety Benchmarking Survey (OSBS) began in 1997 by the Occupational and Environmental Safety and Health Committee to assist members in improving their safety functions by providing them with benchmarking data related specifically to safety and workers' compensation.
Individual organizations are able to compare themselves with respondents as a whole and with subsets of respondents, including categories based on number of employees and type of institution.
The survey is conducted in June for the previous year. In 2005, 26 hospitals members and 11 long-term care members participated in the survey, which reported on data from 2004.
