The Health Council is working in coordination with hospitals, public health departments, Emergency Medical Services
(EMS), Emergency Management Agencies (EMA), law enforcement and other local organizations, as well as state and federal groups to help Greater Cincinnati prepare in the event of a mass casualty or bio-terrorist incident.
This region has received funding from the federal Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) which is supporting the positions of three terrorism/disaster preparedness coordinators. The grant is funding the development of the Regional Medical Response System (RMRS), which is expanding activities of the Metropolitan Medical Response System (MMRS).
The regional coordinators include:
- RMRS coordinator - Jerry Lautz is facilitating planning among fire, EMS, EMA, law enforcement and other agencies in this region. Regional Hospital Coordinator - Tonda L. Francis, RN, is working with hospitals in the region to manage preparedness initiatives and coordinate with public health and RMRS to produce a cohesive regional hospital plan for response to a terrorist or mass casualty incident.
- Public Health Emergency Response Coordinator - Jared Warner is organizing activities among local public health departments to prepare for possible bio-terrorist incidents and unexpected outbreaks of infectious diseases in the area.
