 BECOMING A NURSE EDUCATOR

The Becoming a Nurse Educator program is an initiative to assist local schools with faculty vacancies.

National Facts:

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing reported that US nursing schools turned away over 40,000 qualified applicants in 2007.

Faculty shortages at nursing schools across the country are limiting student capacity at a time when the need for nurses continues to grow.

2008 Tristate Nursing Supply and Demand Study:

  • Faculty vacancy rate of 6%  (7.6% national rate)
  • 51% of our faculty are 50 years of older
  • Within 10 years, over 40% of our current nursing faculty is expected to retire
  • Only 25% are younger than 40 years.
