The Greater Cincinnati Health Council has announced two recipients of its Advanced Preceptor Award and the winner of its Solutions in Nursing Leadership Award – two awards programs that support the Council’s role in helping its members create a stronger health care community.
Established four years ago, the Advanced Preceptor Award recognizes exemplary health care professionals who support health care students and new employees through their organization’s precepting program. This year’s awardees are Ann Bertram, RN, an emergency department nurse at St. Elizabeth Ft. Thomas and resident of Independence, Ky., and Linda Charles, RN, of West Chester Hospital’s emergency department and resident of Centerville, Ohio.
“These two women display an exemplary commitment to students and new employees within their organizations,” said Mary Duffey, executive director of the Council’s Health Care Workforce Center. “They exhibit a respectful and caring attitude toward those they mentor and train. Patients are the ultimate benefactors when newly graduated nurses achieve competency and proficiency in providing high quality and safe patient care.”
The Solutions in Nursing Leadership Award recognizes a Tristate registered nurse who has exceeded expectations in realizing positive outcomes to benefit the patient, client, organization, profession or community, and has inspired others to reach new heights in nursing excellence.
Leadership Award winner Sherri Ahaus, RN, MSN, CNOR – a resident of Lawrenceburg, Ind. – is director of perioperative services at Bethesda North Hospital where she oversees 10 departments and approximately 280 employees. Ahaus was recognized for her superior ability to build a cohesive team while remaining attentive to the professional growth and success of each individual on the team. A stand-out example of Ahaus’ innovative leadership in 2010 was an Operating Room Optimization Project that realized significant improvements in several surgical services processes. During the last four years she also was instrumental in the development of the hospital’s Center for Digestive Health and in the implementation of the hospital’s Robotics Program.
Award recipients were announced at the Council’s recent Solutions in Nursing regional conference that brought together nurses from throughout Greater Cincinnati with a panel of regional and national nursing leaders.
