  • Community Blood Drive Initiative

    Purpose

To increase and ensure adequate blood supplies in order to reduce hospital costs and improve the quality of patient care throughout Greater Cincinnati.

    Description

Hoxworth Blood Center and the Greater Cincinnati Health Council have partnered in an effort to address the ongoing blood shortages prevalent in the region. Historically, Greater Cincinnati has had to purchase blood from outside the Tristate to cope with local shortages.

Member hospitals are encouraged to support their hospital employees to donate blood, either at a hospital-coordinated blood drive or at a neighborhood donor center on behalf of their respective hospital. The Health Council bestows two prestigious awards annually in order to recognize the great work of local hospitals on this initiative.

The Award of Distinction is presented to the hospital with the highest overall score based on two factors:

    • Best overall donation performance
    • Completion of the hospital’s respective individual goal

The Most Improved Award is presented to the hospital that tallies the largest increase in donations as compared to the previous fiscal year.
