To recognize outstanding leadership in patient safety, and to promote the sharing of best practices and raise the bar for patient safety across the entire community.
The Richard M. Smith, M.D. Leadership in Patient Safety Award was instituted in 2003 by the Greater Cincinnati Health Council in memory of Dr. Richard Smith, a tireless proponent of patient safety whose memory continues to inspire all of us.
Patient safety is a priority for the Health Council and for its member hospitals. This award is given to a person who exemplifies Dr. Smith’s dedication and commitment to patient safety, who works to communicate the importance of making patient safety an organizational priority, and who serves as an outstanding role model for those working to enhance the safety of patients throughout the entire health care delivery system.
