  • Nonviolent Health Care Culture Project

The regional Promoting a Nonviolent Health Care Culture Task Force is an interdisciplinary group assembled by the Health Council to help members increase worker and employer awareness of the risk factors for violence in hospitals and provide strategies for reducing exposure.

The task force has developed guidelines for area hospitals that promote environments that are free of all forms of violence – from bullying to physical assault.

    • Task force members have researched national and international best practices to guide their efforts
    • Members have shared best practices from their own organizations.
    • A toolkit has been developed with helpful resources, such as recommendations for organizational processes that cover everything from incident reporting and how to promote nonviolent policies within a facility to how to flag violent behavior.
    • Guidelines for staff training and education and incident data collection and monitoring are also included.
    • As this is a hospital-wide initiative, all employees will have access to information and online training, and role-playing training will be offered for employees in high-risk areas.

All member hospitals are invited and encouraged to take part in this important effort. Contact Mary Duffey for more information.
